Gold Weight Unit Converter
Convert one gold weight into every supported unit. Troy ounces are used—not ordinary avoirdupois ounces.
Tola uses the conventional 180-troy-grain basis: 1 tola = 11.6638038 grams = 0.375 troy ounce.
This calculator converts mass only. It does not determine gold purity, value, making charges, assay results or live prices.
Reviewed on 15 July 2026 using NIST Handbook 44 troy and metric mass tables and World Gold Council gold-weight information.
Gold is commonly weighed in metric units and troy units. This converter uses grams as the internal bridge, allowing direct conversion among grams, kilograms, troy ounces, conventional tola, pennyweight and grains without involving purity or price.
How the Gold Weight Converter Works
The calculator first multiplies the entered amount by its gram conversion factor. It then divides the gram amount by the target unit's factor. The original value is retained internally at full JavaScript precision before display rounding.
For example, 10 grams divided by 11.6638038 grams per tola equals approximately 0.8573509788 tola.
Gold Weight Conversion Factors
| Unit | Symbol | Grams used | Relationship |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gram | g | 1 | Base unit used by this calculator |
| Kilogram | kg | 1,000 | 1 kg = 1,000 g |
| Troy ounce | ozt | 31.1034768 | 1 ozt = 480 grains = 20 dwt |
| Tola | tola | 11.6638038 | Conventional 180-troy-grain basis |
| Pennyweight | dwt | 1.55517384 | 1 dwt = 24 grains |
| Grain | gr | 0.06479891 | 480 grains = 1 troy ounce |
NIST's 2026 mass tables give one grain as 64.79891 milligrams, one pennyweight as 1.55517384 grams and one troy ounce as 31.1034768 grams. A kilogram is exactly 1,000 grams.
Gram to Tola Gold Conversion
This page uses one conventional tola as 180 troy grains. Multiplying 180 by 0.06479891 gram per grain gives 11.6638038 grams. Therefore:
- 1 gram = approximately 0.0857350979 tola
- 10 grams = approximately 0.8573509788 tola
- 100 grams = approximately 8.573509788 tola
- 1 tola = 11.6638038 grams
- 10 tola = 116.638038 grams
Troy Ounce vs Regular Ounce
Precious metals are generally quoted in troy ounces. One troy ounce is 31.1034768 grams. A standard avoirdupois ounce used for many everyday goods is 28.349523125 grams, so substituting an ordinary ounce creates a material error. Every “ounce” option on this page is explicitly a troy ounce.
Troy Ounce, Pennyweight and Grain
The troy system has simple internal relationships:
- 24 grains = 1 pennyweight
- 20 pennyweights = 1 troy ounce
- 480 grains = 1 troy ounce
- 1 conventional tola = 180 grains = 7.5 pennyweights = 0.375 troy ounce
Because these relationships share the troy grain, converting through grams and converting directly within the troy system produce the same result apart from display rounding.

Use Net Gold Weight for Valuation
This converter changes units only. If you later calculate gold value, use the correct eligible metal weight. Gemstones, enamel, watch movements, steel springs, packaging and other non-gold components may be included in gross weight but should not automatically be valued as gold.
Purity is a separate measurement. Ten grams of 18K alloy and ten grams of 24K / 999 material have the same total mass but different fine-gold content.
Precision and Display Rounding
Results display up to ten decimal places where useful, while calculations use the unrounded value. Extremely small or large results may appear in scientific notation. A physical scale's resolution and calibration usually limit real-world accuracy more than the displayed decimal places.
